Develop programs to assist low-income single-parent households and households in which grandparents are raising children for Beaufort and Jasper County. Community First understands the frustration of grandparents raising grandchildren and single-parent families and one of their greatest concerns is their children's safety and education. Some parents work two jobs just to make ends meet and when their child have problems in school they can't afford to take time off from work or fear losing their jobs. It may seem that these parents don't love their children or not concern with their child's education. When there is only one parent in the house or grandparents who are tired and may have health problems, the burden of taking care of their family is overwhelming. Children who are raised by their grandparents can completely dominate their grandparents lives and drain them of their energy. For these reasons Community First has developed a program called "Parents Advocate". Learn More
Our Parents Advocate project, with permission from the parents gives us authority at their children's school to be stand-in parents. By participating in this parent advocate program that addresses areas where children need help: school academics, behavior issues, counseling, IEP placement and parents who are not participating in making decisions for their children, parent advocates from Community First will intervene and help the children get the proper help needed to continue their education. The Parent Advocate program will continue to stand in for that child up to a year, and in some cases as long as our presence is needed. Learn MoreCommunity First will offer approximately 20 participating children during the first 3 months, and 20-30 within the first year, between the ages of 9-17 years of age.
